It’s finally 2021, and with many of us taking part in Veganuary, we’ve dedicated all our blogs this month to exactly that.
So, whether you’re a long-term vegan, taking part in Veganuary or perhaps your new year mantra is to reduce your meat and dairy intake, this blog will cover all your snacking needs.
Meal planning can be hard, and whilst many of us do it, we often find ourselves stuck when it comes to snacks. We all need something to look forward to in between meals, but we also need to ensure that they are healthy and nutritious.
So, here are 10 vegan snack ideas…
1. Hummus and vegetables
A classic, but one that everyone loves!
Hummus and vegetables are such a tasty treat, and one that will satisfy you until your next meal.
Made from chickpeas, hummus is high in fibre, healthy fats as well as vitamin B and C.
Choose your favourite fresh vegetables and get dipping!
2. Apple slices and nut butter
Pink Lady, Granny Smith, or Golden Delicious? Whatever your favourite apple, slice it up and serve with a generous spoonful of nut butter.
Peanut, almond and hazelnut butter all make fantastic, tasty dips.
This vegan snack is full of fibre, vitamins and proteins, keeping you fuller for longer and providing you with an extra burst of energy.
Smoothies are a great way to add extra fruit and veg into your diet, as well as being a nutritious snack.
Whatever your favourite fruits and vegetables, add them to a blender with your choice of plant-based milk, and blitz! Providing you with all the good stuff, smoothies are also perfect for on-the-go.
4. Butterscotch Bliss Balls
The perfect pick-me-up snack, these bliss balls are ideal for batch cooking and can also be altered to suit your preferences. To find out how to make a batch of these delicious bliss balls, check out our seven day vegan meal plan.
5. Guacamole and crackers
If you’re looking for something savoury, then this is the vegan snack for you.
Filled with healthy fats and a variety of vitamins, guacamole makes for the perfect afternoon snack when paired with wholegrain crackers.
Tip: Add a bit of chilli for an extra kick.
6. Trail Mix
Trail mix is a combination of nuts, seeds, dried food and often, chocolate. To ensure this snack is completely vegan-friendly and to get all of your favourites in there, we recommend making your own.
With plenty to choose from, including sunflower and pumpkin seeds, raisins, almonds, pecans and vegan dark chocolate, a trail mix is the perfect way to create your very own healthy pick and mix!
And a good source of protein, healthy fats and fibre, this is a sure-fire way to get a whole load of what your body needs.
7. Rice Cakes
For a healthy snack, opt for rice cakes that are made from wholegrain brown rice as they contain less of the bad stuff, and more of the good stuff!
Enjoy alone, or pair with avocado, guacamole, or your favourite nut butter. The choice is yours!
8. Baked veggie crisps
We all enjoy a bag of crisps, so why not enjoy them guilt-free?
Veggie crisps are a great way of adding to your five-a-day as well as curbing your cravings for the salty snack.
Whilst you can buy these, we also recommend making them yourself to ensure that they are filled with nothing but goodness. Thinly slice your favourite vegetables, and bake for 30-60 minutes at 120 degrees.
9. Fruit and yogurt
If you have a bit of a sweet tooth, then we recommend tucking into a bowl of fruit and dairy-free, vegan yogurt.
Frozen fruit will work well, too. And add a drizzle of honey or a sprinkling of flax seeds if you’re after something a little extra.
Providing you with energy and packed full of antioxidants and vitamins, fruit and yogurt is the perfect snack for vegans.
